Campground Overview

Frontenac is a backcountry-only provincial park located on the southern edge of the Canadian Shield. The park is one of the few parks that offer great backcountry camping opportunities yet very close to the major urban areas like Toronto and Ottawa. The 5,350 hectare park offers year around backcountry camping and is a perfect place for beginners in backcountry to learn the tricks and tips. The park also hosts regularly scheduled workshops to help new campers learn backcountry skills

Things to know if you go

  • No of backcountry sites available: 48 (located amongst 13 clusters)
  • All the campsites can be accessed by hiking trail which makes them great snowshoeing routes in the winter
  • Each campsite has a tent pad, fire pit, picnic table, privy and food locker (yes, they have bear proof containers at each site- very handy!)
  • Due to the cluster nature, the sites are usually grouped together at one end of the lake
